Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships 2016-2017
Deadline: Monday, February 8 at 5pm
FLAS Fellowships are awards for graduate students concentrating in modern foreign language and international or area studies. In 2016-2017, UChicago is offering fellowships in five world areas: East Asia, East Europe, Latin America, Middle East, and South Asia (SA is offered in the academic year only). The FLAS program provides funding for study on campus during the academic year and on campus or elsewhere (domestically or abroad) during the summer.
Academic Year award benefits for students in the Social Sciences, Humanities, and Divinity Divisions: While holding an academic year FLAS Fellowship, doctoral students who have a divisional fellowship stipend greater than $15,000 will receive the divisional stipend plus the Student Life Fee, insurance, and an additional $3,000 stipend supplement during the FLAS year. Doctoral students with no divisional fellowship, or a divisional fellowship less than $15,000, will receive the standard $15,000 FLAS stipend, Student Life Fee, and insurance. Master’s students receive a $15,000 stipend, full tuition, and other benefits depending on division. Doctoral students in other divisions should consult with their Dean of Students office on FLAS award packages.
Summer award benefits for all students: $2,500 stipend and up to $5,000 in tuition.
