Lunch with Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs is hosting a lunch with Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan. His Excellency Ali Babacan is deputy prime minister for Economic and Financial Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. He is also a member of the Turkish National Security Council. Previously, he served as minister for Foreign Affairs from 2007 to 2009. He was the minister of the Treasury from 2002 to 2007 and was chief negotiator in Turkey’s accession negotiations with the European Union from 2005 to 2007. Babacan is a founding member of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), and has been a board member since 2001. He was elected to Parliament in 2002. From 1994 to 2002, he was the chairman of his family company. Babacan has a BS in Industrial Engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. For more information, visit
