Malynne Sternstein named Faculty Director of MAPH

Malynne Sternstein, Associate Professor in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures and the College, will serve as the next Faculty Director of the Master of Arts Program in the Humanities (MAPH) effective 1 July 2015. Malynne is a scholar of Czech and Russian literature, culture, and film; she is a highly regarded teacher and recipient of the Quantrell Award for outstanding undergraduate teaching; and she has served as a director both of Fundamentals and of Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities (ISHum) and on committees throughout the College and Division. Author of The Will to Chance, a book on the Czech historical avant-gardes, from Poetism to Surrealism, and Czechs of Chicagoland, a photographic history, and articles on such topics as iconic language, gender and citizenship in the arts, and the prevailing dialectical concerns of surrealism, she is interested in the main in questions relating to the intersection between art and literature, film and politics.  To find out more about her work, visit her faculty page at Slavic Languages and Literatures.
