Polish Club Film Screening" Body (Małgorzata Szumowska, 2015)

POSTPONED UNTIL FEBRUARY 7

Please join us for a screening of Ciało / Body (Małgorzata Szumowska, 2015)

After her stirring films on students making ends meet through sex work (Elles, 2011) and a priest's struggle with his sexual urges (In the Name of..., 2013), Małgorzata Szumowska's sixth feature film deals with various ways the body relates to the work of mourning.

A few years after her mother's death, Janusz (Janusz Gajos), a desensitized coroner, sends his dwindling anorexic and bulimic daughter Olga (Justyna Suwala) to a clinic. She meets there the unorthodox counselor Anna (Maja Ostaszewska), who besides her regular practice claims to speak to the dead. The film traces the convergence of relationships between body, stasis and mourning coolly, with elegance, humor and restraint. The film was awarded the Silver Berlin Bear for best director.
