NSF GRFP: Decoding the Program Solicitation

The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) provides three years of stipend and tuition support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant research achievements in STEM, the Social Sciences, or STEM education. NSF especially encourages women, members of underrepresented minority groups, persons with disabilities, veterans, and undergraduate seniors to apply.

 

Eligible students are:
·         American citizens, nationals, or permanent residents;
·         1st or 2nd year graduate students (can only apply once);
·         in the Sciences, Social Sciences, or STEM education fields;
·         graduate students who have not completed more than 12 months of a graduate program in a supported field of study (unless they have had an interruption in graduate study of at least two consecutive years prior to November 1 of the year the application is submitted)

Lunch will be provided at this information session.

NSF GRFP: Mentoring Session with Fred Stafford
Wednesday, August 2, 12-1:30pm
Location: UChicagoGRAD Headquarters - 3rd floor of the UChicago Bookstore

Fred Stafford (former NSF Program Director) will share his knowledge and experience with crafting strong NSF essays. His talk will focus on the research statement component of the NSF GRPF and the “Hallmarks of Excellent Research.” Students who attend this workshop will be able to sign up for small writing groups with Fred in the weeks leading up to the deadlines.

There will be a small amount of preparatory work to be done in advance of this workshop. Please RSVP by 10am on July 31 to ensure that there are enough handouts for all attendees.
