Fulbright-Hays Russia 2008 Trip
CEERES was awarded a Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad grant to take thirteen K-12 teachers to Russia during the summer of 2008. "Discovering Russia: Challenging Stereotypes and Media Myths" was a multi-faceted program designed to immerse instructors from the United States in contemporary Russian culture and society and give them a historical background with which to understand Russia's journey to the present. The month-long seminar included a variety of presentations, discussions, musical performances, and excursions to important historical and tourist sites in the Vladimir region, the ancient town of Murom, and the cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow.
The educators brought back valuable information which they have transformed into excellent blogs, lesson plans, and presentations, many of which are available at this website. Detailed information about the pre-departure workshop in Chicago and the in-country seminar can be found at: http://ceeres.uchicago.edu/gpa/index.shtml.
