Humanities Day, an annual tradition at the University of Chicago since 1980, celebrates the humanities with free discussions, tours, performances, and lectures featuring the latest research of our award-winning faculty in the Division of the Humanities.

William Nickell - "Putin's Puppets"

Henry Chauncey Jr. Postdoctoral Fellowships, Yale University

The Chauncey Postdoctoral Fellowships are up to three positions funded by the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy for one year renewable for one additional year. We seek to attract outstanding junior scholars from around the globe whose work addresses questions of statecraft and grand strategy, broadly defined, and demonstrates excellence in one of a range of academic disciplines and methodologies. Postdoctoral fellows must have completed their PhD degree to begin the fellowship.

Wallin Postdoctoral Fellowship in Russian and Modern European History, Macalester College

The Department of History at Macalester College announces an opening for a two-year Wallin Postdoctoral Fellowship in Russian/Modern European History, to begin in Fall 2019. Applicants should have a PhD at the time of appointment in the field of Russian history. The annual starting salary for the position is $70,000, plus full benefits and funds to support research and travel.

Call for Contributions: Peripheral Histories

The Peripheral Histories?  blog is a collaborative digital history project on the regions and peoples of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, which have often been perceived as geographically, politically or culturally ‘peripheral’. As our name suggests, we are interested in the shifting ways in which ‘peripherality’ has been constructed; in the changing status of and relations between ‘centres’ and ‘peripheries’ and the ways in which borderlands have been remade in particular historical circumstances.
