Career Conversation: Elana Lopez, Change.org

November 30 @ 1:00 PM CT via Zoom

Join UChicagoGRAD for a virtual conversation with Elana Lopez, the Chief People Officer at Change.org, the world's largest social change platform. Elana will discuss her current role, her career journey, and her advice for other graduate students who are looking to enter the diverse field of social impact careers.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Elana Lopez is the Chief People Officer at Change.org, leading the Human Resources, Learning & Development, Talent, People Operations and People Support teams. She has been with the organization since April of 2019 and has placed a deep focus on equity and inclusiveness in her approach to staff support and the org recruiting philosophy. Before joining Change.org, Elana worked as Director of Organization Management at Avaaz, a global campaigning organization, and as a crisis counselor for survivors of domestic abuse and gender-based violence.

Elana graduated from the MAPH program in 2011. She focused her work on understanding how individuals and communities use story to understand war, personal trauma, and other difficult events, and build systems to traverse these wounds. She was particularly interested in how these narratives are constructed in comic books and graphic novels, and why the intersection of text and image was so rife for this exploration. She currently lives in Chicago with her husband, three children, and two dogs and spends her free time trying to stay sane during the pandemic!
