CEERES Graduate Student Lectureship 2020-2021 Call for Proposals

The Center for East European and Russian/Eurasian Studies invites proposals from University of Chicago PhD students for an undergraduate course to be taught during the Academic Year 2020-2021. This lectureship will provide support for CEERES-focused graduate students at the University of Chicago to design an area studies course related to their research interests. However, the intent is to provide engaging and interesting courses for undergraduates—courses that are suitable for their department’s undergraduate curriculum as well as having a broader appeal.  At a minimum, the recipient will receive the standard College lectureship rate for the individual undergraduate course they will teach in the College. This fellowship is for one quarter only. Recipients of these fellowships may not defer the fellowships to a later year. Graduate students must be ABD by January 31 of the academic year prior to the year in which their course is offered.

To apply students should submit their C.V. (including a list of your faculty committee members) and a course syllabus to ceeres@uchicago.edu by February 14, 2020.

The course syllabus should include the following information:

  • Title of your course - concise enough so that someone looking at the Time Schedule or a Student Transcript will understand the topic of the course (The Registrar's maximum is 62 characters/spaces in a title -- but that's already probably too long.)
  • Indication of which quarter you would prefer to teach — or whether you are “open” to any quarter.
  • A one-paragraph course description. 1/3 page single spaced/roughly 200 words maximum.
  • A detailed Course Outline/Syllabus broken down into topics, assigned and suggested readings, course requirements (e.g., written and oral reports, term papers, mode of examination, etc).
  • Criteria for Course Grade
