Estonian-fluent Research Assistant (Remote), Jan-Sep 2021

Dear colleagues,

This January, I will begin a nine-month Title VIII Research Scholarship at the Kennan Institute in Washington, DC, where I will work on journal articles based on my dissertation, "Smuggler States: Poland, Latvia, Estonia, and Contraband Trade Across the Soviet Frontier, 1919-1924" (University of Chicago, 2020).

To facilitate this work, I am seeking a Research Assistant fluent in Estonian. The Kennan Institute provides funds for a part-time (15 hours/week) Research Assistant internship, as described here: https://www.wilsoncenter.org/opportunity/internships-the-kennan-institute

This work can be done remotely.

The only restriction is that, for a paid position, the intern must be authorized to work in the United States. There may be more flexibility for an unpaid role. The Research Assistant would carry out primary-source research and translation, working with digitized Estonian archival materials and periodicals from the 1920s. They would gain valuable research experience, and be appropriately credited in any resulting publication(s).

Interested students should email me at andrey@uchicago.edu, explaining why they are a good fit for this role and attaching a resume/CV.

Thank you so much, in advance.

Kind regards,
