Library Trials of Online Primary Source Materials Related to Russia

Hello all!

I set up a few more trials, mostly consisting of online primary source materials. Please take a look when you can at any which pique your interest. My goal is to have a collection of potential purchases of varying price points which I can use to fit whatever funds are available at the end of the year. While we are clearly not purchasing all of these this year if at all, I can also use any input you may have towards potential purchases in subsequent years.

Thank you to those of you who have provided feedback so far. I have heard positive feedback on the "All-Russia Vote on Constitution" collection, 30 Dnei, and the "Soviet Cinema Online: Periodicals and Newspapers 1918-1942" collection.

  1. New Trials

o   Bibliography of the History and Archaeology of Eastern Europe in the Middle AgesEnds May 31
The bibliography provides comprehensive coverage of all publications, in all languages, pertaining to Scandinavia, Western Europe, the steppe lands of Eurasia, as well as Byzantium, from about 500 to the aftermath of the Mongol invasion of 1241.

o   Muslims in Russia Online, Ends May 31
This collection introduces the uniquely varied and poorly explored Russian Muslim population during one of the most dynamic periods of their history (1861-1918). Materials published in Russia both at the center and on the periphery reflect the picturesque palette of life of Muslims in the Russian Empire, as well as the positions of their public and political figures. This collection presents works written by and about Muslims.

o   Russian Anarchist Periodicals of the Early 20th Century OnlineEnds May 31
Includes newspapers, journals, pamphlets, creative work, and other materials produced in Russia and Ukraine during the early 20th century, 1910-1919.

o   Russian Military Intelligence on Asia Online: Secret Prints, 1883-1914, Ends May 31
The bulk of the Secret Prints consists of first-hand accounts composed by contemporary travelers to lesser-known reaches of Asia. Most were Russian army officers, many of whom had extensive training in geography and related disciplines. Articles range from attaché and diplomatic dispatches to histories of tsarist plans for the invasion of India, the siege of Herat, and European campaigns against China.

o   Soviet Cinema Online. Archival Documents from RGALI, 1923-1935Ends May 31
This smaller collection complements the Soviet Cinema Online Collection of periodicals and newspapers. It includes a selection of documents on Soviet Cinema from the RGALI collection. Descriptive titles are available in English. Like the other Soviet Cinema Online collection, we have this in microfilm and the searching functionality is questionable.

o   Linguistic Minorities in Europe OnlineEnds May 31
This is a trial a colleague set up, but it may have content of interest to you. Please still let me know if you are interested in this resource and I will pass the information along to my colleague.

  1. A Note on East View's Jewish Studies Collection
Since this collection is not available to trial until the end of May/early June, East View is meeting with me to provide a demonstration. If you have any questions, which you would like to make sure I ask, please let me know by the end of the day on Monday May 3rd. I have already heard from some of you regarding which of the sub-collections are of particular interest. The description of the collection and the sub-collections can be found here.

Thank you for the feedback and please continue to let me know if there is anything I can do to support you as we start looking towards the end of this quarter.

All the best,

Megan
