Workshop: "Non-traditional Publishing and Digitization in Slavic and East European Countries"

All are invited to participate in an online workshop that planned with fellow information professionals from around the world. The workshop, “Non-Traditional Publishing and Digitization in Slavic and East European Countries,” will cover samizdat, rock zines, art, and counterculture works, and will focus on Slavic and East European resources, specifically primary sources created by underground, alternative, and counter-culture social groups.

This workshop will be on Thursday, November 7 at 10 AM CST. It will address the relevance of non-traditional publishing to a wider audience of students, scholars, librarians, researchers, and collectors. An examination of the usefulness and the validity of these resources in the context of research will be provided. Moreover, panelists will discuss the accessibility of these materials in the digital age, with special focus on obstacles for access and copyright issues.

Featuring Panelists: 

Ann Komaromi (University of Toronto)

She is an inspiring researcher and scholar who played a vital role in the construction of the Project for the Study of Dissidence and Samizdat.
Olga Zaslavskaya (the International Alternative Culture Center)

She has worked closely with samizdat for years, and will speak on classical samizdat and normal press related to the informal art scenes of late socialism through the early post-Soviet period.
Veronika Trotter (Indiana University).

She is a scholar and librarian who will speak on her new and exciting research on digitization of Russian rock music zines.
Mark Yoffe (George Washington University). 

He will bring his expertise on samizdat and counterculture to conclude our workshop.
