Pre-Dissertation Research Fellowship in European Studies



The Council for European Studies (CES) invites eligible graduate students to apply for its 2015 CES Pre-Dissertation Research Fellowships. Each fellowship includes a $4,000 stipend, travel support for attending and presenting at the International Conference of Europeanists, and the opportunity to publish in Perspectives on Europe, a semi-annual journal of the Council for European Studies.

The American Research Institute in Turkey announces Fellowships for Advanced Turkish Language at Boğazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, during the summer 2015.




18 June - 5 August 2015


This intensive language program offers the equivalent of one full academic year of study in Turkish at the college level. The fellowships cover round-trip airfare to Istanbul, application and tuition fees, and a maintenance stipend.

Karagiozis (Καραγκιόζης) is a shadow puppet and comical fictional character of Greek folklore, who represents the struggle of the Greek people, particularly under the yoke of Turkish occupation. Karagiozis seems to have come to mainland Greece most likely from Anatolia, Asia Minor during Ottoman rule and was Hellenized by the end of 19th century.
