CFP: AATSEEL 2020

The American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages (AATSEEL) is happy to remind SEELANGers about the Call for Papers for the 2020 conference. We are also pleased to announce that the first-round deadline for submissions has been extended to May 1, 2019. In addition to the general CFP, we are now issuing the CFP for the 2020 Streams, described in more detail below.

The AATSEEL Call for Papers is available here:  http://www.aatseel.org/cfp_main

In addition to regular conference panels and events, the program also includes panel streams. The streams promote greater cohesion among conference panels and foster a broader dialogue throughout the conference. The result is a series of mini-conferences within the framework of our larger conference. There will be two stream sessions (“A” streams on Friday of the conference, and “B” streams on Saturday of the conference). The panels in each session will meet simultaneously, so members may apply for no more than one “A” stream and one “B” stream.  All conference attendees are welcome to attend stream panels, but participants in a stream are expected to attend all of the panels in their stream.

The stream topics for 2020 are:

Friday, February 7th, 2020 ("A" Streams)
(1A) Tolstoy as a Reader
(2A) Soviet Literary Institutions
(3A) Performance after Communism
(4A) Visual Literacies
(5A) Critical Theory in Russian Texts and Contexts

Saturday, February 8th, 2020 ("B" Streams)
(1B) Dostoevsky Beyond Bakhtin
(2B) From the Outskirts to the Center: The Many Faces of Soviet Unofficial Culture
(3B) Science Fiction in Literature and Cinema
(4B) Gender and Sexuality in the Slavic World

Full descriptions of the 2020 Streams are available here: https://www.aatseel.org/program/2020-streams/

All current AATSEEL members are eligible to submit paper proposals to any one of the streams listed above. Proposals should be submitted through the regular submission website (http://www.aatseel.org/cfp_main) as an “Individual Paper” with the title of the stream selected in the drop-down menu on the proposal form. Please do not send submissions directly to the stream organizers. Please submit your proposals by May 1, 2019 for early consideration (the final submission deadline is July 1, 2019).

For more information, visit the AATSEEL website: http://www.aatseel.org/program/. All proposals must be made through the online submission process - no emailed proposals will be accepted.

When submitting a proposal, please be mindful that doing so constitutes a professional commitment to attend the conference in San Diego, February 6-9, 2020. All proposal authors and panelists must be current AATSEEL members. The 2018-19 membership year ends on June 30th, 2019. Similarly, all participants in the AATSEEL conference are required to register for the conference by December 15, 2019. Online registration opens on August 15, 2019.
