Online Russian Language Camp for Teens

The 3rd Annual Online Russian Language Camp

Know a teenager interested in learning Russian, but without local opportunities to do so or not enough time? Sign them up for the (now) 3rd annual Summer Online Russian Language Camp!

The camp offers a unique opportunity for students to get a feel for the basic structure, sound, and grammar of Russian. It is intended to be an intensive Russian "Taster" Course with an emphasis on basic communication and grammar.  Live Sessions are scheduled according to the Pacific Time Zone, but if you have Internet Access where you are, you can join in the fun!

What will we cover?
By the end of Week 1 participants will be able to introduce themselves in Russian, understand basic rules of formality, and ask basic questions (What? Who? Where?). They'll be able to spell out their names in the Cyrillic Alphabet and read basic maps and street signs.

By the end of Week 2 participants will be able to use basic personal pronouns to talk about themselves and their family, two basic adjectives to describe where they are from and places in Russia, ane some basic verbs in the present tense to talk about where they live and study.

Required equipment:
Participants will be required to have access to a computer or laptop with broadband internet access. Headphones with a mic are optional, but highly recommended.

How Online Works:
Camp materials will reside in Blackboard Coursesites - an online content delivery platform. Access will be opened two days prior to the camp so that participants can check their connection and be prepared to login live on the first day.

Live Sessions will be held daily beginning Monday morning from 9:00-10:30am PT and will be conducted using the built in Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing software (participants will need to download the Blackboard Collaborate launcher when they first login). We'll meet at the same time each day to practice reading and writing, and basic conversation.

In addition to attending Live Sessions, participants will be expected to complete online activities daily in Blackboard to practice skills learned and to prepare for the next day's session. These should take about an hour.

How to Register:
To register, simply fill out your information here in Eventbrite. You'll be sent a confirmation email at the moment of registration followed up by an email invitation with login information 2-3 days prior to the start of the camp. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the instructor.

Registration is open to participants in grades 9-12 (from entering ninth graders to graduated 12th graders). There is a limited number of discounts for siblings or second participants included in the same registration.

Registration prices range from $90-160

The online "camp" will extend over two weeks:

Week 1: June 25-29 (5 live sessions)
Week 2: July 2-6, 2018 (4 live sessions - we won't meet on July 4th).

Note: Participants have the option of signing up for just the 1st week if they want; however, the full 2 week camp will give them a much stronger foundation. Either way a minimum of 3 students will be required to operate both weeks of the camp. The maximum group size is 15.
