The Challenges of Writing: Features of Sound, Image and Meaning in Three Languages

Ezzat Goushegir, is a playwright, author and film critic. She has performed her plays internationally as well as published five books in Farsi, including three collections of short stories: The Woman, the Room and Love, …And Suddenly the Leopard Cried: Woman,  The Woman Reluctantly Said Goodbye as well as a collection of two plays and a book of poetry. A number of her plays have been staged and produced in the US, Europe, Canada and China since 1987; among them Maryam's Pregnancy which won a Richard Maibaum award and Behind the Curtains received a Norman Felton award. Three of her plays “Medea was Born in Fallujah” “You are not a Man!” and “Now Smile” were anthologized in Witness, Crawdad and Afghanistan: A Window on the Tragedy. Currently she teaches at DePaul University in Chicago.
