Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program, U.S. Department of State and American Councils

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a fully-funded overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. With the goal of broadening the base of Americans studying and mastering critical languages and building relationships between the people of the United States and other countries, CLS provides study opportunities to a diverse range of students from across the United States at every level of language learning.

 

 

American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) Fellowships

ARIT supports and administers programs of fellowships for scholarly research and for language study in Turkey.  Programs for scholars and graduate students based in the U.S. and Canada include the ARIT, the ARIT National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship programs, and the ARIT Summer Language Program at Boğazici University in Istanbul.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs

The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

 

 

ARIT Summer Fellowship for Intensive Advanced Turkish Language Study at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul

THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM: The American Research Institute in Turkey will offer approximately 15 fellowships for advanced students for participation in the summer program in intensive advanced Turkish language at Boğaziçi University* in Istanbul.  This intensive program offers the equivalent of one full academic year of study in Turkish at the college level. The fellowships cover round-trip airfare to Istanbul, application and tuition fees, and a maintenance stipend.

 

 

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships, U.S. Department of Education

FLAS Fellowships are awards for students concentrating in modern foreign language and international or area studies. UChicago offers funding for languages in four world areas: East Europe, Latin America, Middle East, South Asia. The FLAS program provides funding for study on campus during the academic year and on campus or elsewhere (domestic or abroad) during the summer.

Boren Awards for International Study, National Security Education Program

Boren Scholarships

Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
