We invite all those who would like to honor her memory: from the stage, singing songs, or in the audience, listening to them.

The collected funds will be used to establish a monument in the territory of JCYS.


You are most cordially invited to the next SEENEXT meeting on December 5, 2017 at 6 pm. Our speaker is Ekaterina Boltunova, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow. She is currently a visiting scholar at UIC (on the Prokhorov foundation fellowship). Professor Boltunova was a 2008-2009 Fulbright Scholar at Columbia University, NY; Visiting Lecturer at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign  (2009), and a participant of multiple international research projects.

Lithuanian Straw Christmas Ornament Workshop

Learn how to create beautiful Lithuanian straw Christmas ornaments at this year’s Straw Christmas Ornament Workshop at the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture. Instead of the traditional threaded ornaments–wherein straws are threaded with string to make intricate 3-dimensional designs–instructors Donatas and Kathy Astras will teach how to score and flatten shafts of wheat straw to make wheat straw applique ornaments (see photo above).

KAIA String Quartet is a Chicago-based ensemble devoted to capturing the essence of Latin American culture through the medium of the string quartet. KAIA is currently in residency with WFMT Chicago’s classical and arts radio station where they perform, curate, and expose audiences to new ways of thinking about Latin American music.

Velvet Revolutions - Lecture by the Czech Academy of Science Professors

On Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 7 PM, the TGM is hosting a lecture by oral history experts and professors from the Czech Academy of Science. Authors Miroslav Vaněk and Pavel Mücke will present their book "Velvet Revolutions: An Oral History of Czech Society" published last year by the Oxford University Press. It crafts a multi-layered view of Czech society in between 1968 and 2013 and describes the society transformation following the Velvet Revolution through voices of ordinary people.
