Ukrainian at the University of Chicago

The University of Chicago offers Ukrainian at the beginner and intermediate levels. When there is interest, advanced-level study is also available.

If you have previous experience with Ukrainian as a heritage speaker, formal learner, or through self-study, please take the online placement test, so we find the class that best fits your level. Our experienced instructors are also specialists in Heritage Language Learning and can help you build your skills quickly and confidently.

In addition to language classes, an array of Ukrainian content courses in translation are offered, as well as a Slavic film series and many academic talks and events.

Please direct questions about placement, competency, and courses to the Ukrainian language instructor Erik Houle at erhoule@uchicago.edu as well as Darya Tsymbalyuk for content courses at tsymbalyuk@uchicago.edu.

For current courses, visit the courses page of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures.
