Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for an intensive Russian program this summer in Daugavpils, Latvia, with financial support from US Dept of Education’s Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad program.
Tentative Dates: July 1-August 11, 2022 (approximately 5 weeks).
Who can participate: US citizens or permanent residents who have completed at least three years of collegiate Russian study or equivalent. All language instruction will be offered at the advanced level. Undergraduate, just-graduated, and graduate students are eligible. All participants must have begun the study of the language in school or college; this is not a program for heritage learners.
Program features: 105 hours of Russian instruction at Daugavpils University, homestays with Russian-speaking families, four regional weekend excursions, on-site director for the duration of the program.
Costs: the program is heavily subsidized by the Dept. of Education, so total costs per student should run approximately $600-$700.
The program cost includes the following: round-trip airfare to/from NYC (JFK) to Riga, Latvia; round-trip transport from Riga to Daugavpils; homestay (including 2 meals/day); transport, guides, admissions, and meals during four weekend excursions; lunches during the week while classes are in session; COVID testing; language assessment at program conclusion.
