Лептир машна/Leptir mašna ('The Bowtie') is an interdisciplinary journal devoted to Balkan studies founded in 2002 by Nada Petkovic, lecturer in South Slavic languages and cultures at the University of Chicago Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures. The journal is published annually, and features works by undergraduate and graduate students across academic fields, including anthropology, creative writing, language, linguistics, literature, poetry, political science, and sociology. Leptir mašna is dedicated to promoting knowledge of the Balkans, its history, languages, literatures, and cultures, by providing students an opportunity for publication and encouraging campus–wide dialog about the region.
