The application period for 2021–2022 Postdoctoral Fellowships runs from November 2020 –January 11, 2021.

The Davis Center will award one Postdoctoral Fellowship in History and one Postdoctoral Fellowship in Literature and Culture. We welcome research proposals on topics related to the study of Eurasia.

Scholars who do not meet the eligibility requirements for the Postdoctoral Fellowship should consider applying for affiliation via the Visiting Scholars program. 

Fellowship Eligibility and Benefits

  • For junior scholars who will have completed the Ph.D. or equivalent by September 2021, but no earlier than September 2016
  • 9 month, in-residence fellowship (September 1, 2021 through May 31, 2022)
  • Stipend of up to $45,000 
  • $2,000 in additional research funding
  • Eligible for employee benefits, including subsidized health insurance
  • Citizens of all countries may apply

The application will ask for the following information: 

  • Basic biographical information
  • Proposed research project 
  • CV
  • Affiliation and contact information for up to three references 

Please be aware that all materials must be submitted in English. 

You will need to upload the following materials to the application:

Project Proposal: Explain the significance of your proposed research, when you expect to complete it, how it will differ from other studies on the same topic, what materials are available for it, where they are located, and any other information you consider relevant. Explain why the Davis Center would be a suitable place for your work. This document should be single-spaced and approximately 2,500 words in length. Please include your full name in the header or footer of your proposal.

Brief Curriculum Vitae: Include academic background, employment history, and major publications. List the institutions in which you have studied or worked, institution locations, field(s) of study, degrees, and dates of employment or study. Please do NOT include any sensitive personal data on your CV, such as social security number, passport number, or date of birth. Due to our security protocols this information must be redacted.

Please do not submit additional materials, such as transcripts, certificates, diplomas, or monographs. They will not be considered.

Letters of Recommendation: Please arrange to have up to three references evaluate your work and proposal. All letters of reference must be submitted through the online application portal directly. Recommendation letters should be submitted by your references as soon as possible after you apply. Your references will receive an email from the application system prompting them to send their recommendation letters only after you submit the fellowship application. References will have until the end of January to submit letters of recommendation through the online system. You may wish to personally ask your references now whether they are willing to provide you with a recommendation. 


Confirmation and Decisions

The application deadline is January 11, 2021. Decisions will be announced in late March 2021.
