Position Description

 

Do you love your experience learning and going to college in United States? Do you want to tell other students about your experience? Seeking 5-6 international students who can use their voice to show other students in Central Asia what studying in the United States is really like. Through storytelling, you can share your personal story with others. 

 

The Social Media Storyteller will work with the Senior Manager of Field Operations, and the Senior Adviser for Central Asia to identify and develop stories based on your personal experience.  You will create inspiring videos, photos and written content for online platforms. As the Storyteller, you will both create and produce audio-visual content.

While the technical skills are vital to succeeding, the mindset and talent for crafting a story is of equal importance. The Storyteller will actively participate in and administer a wide variety of social media print and broadcast activities to inform Central Asia students about life on a U.S. college campus. This may involve local travel to capture and present the stories of international students’ impact on the local community, as well as working with staff, volunteers, program participants and community members to deliver these stories in compelling ways.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create compelling content and innovative material to include in 5-6 storytelling projects used for social media each month. 
  • In collaboration with management team and other storytellers, develop an effective content strategy and editorial plan to meet project objectives that includes but is not limited to topic development and gathering, writing, and editing content to share on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
  • Produce and edit video, photography, and other artwork, as well as written content, of assigned projects while conforming to elements required within the established brand identity.
  • Manage online discussions by listening to users, reading posts, and responding in a timely manner to user needs and requests.
  • Generate and organize social media events to maximize real-time engagement.
  • Create and maintain a social media calendar. Monitor, track, and report on discussion topics on social media platforms for management team and internal use.
  • Regularly provide information about new trends and/or opportunities that could further the strategic initiatives.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Current international student at a U.S. college or university, with a personal background that is relevant to the target audience of students in Central Asia.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills required.
  • Ability to conduct compelling interviews and engagingly explore topics while adapting to fit social media channel and brand
  • Basic photography and video editing experience preferred; Proficiency in Canva preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of current social media landscape, trends, tools.
  • Ability to negotiate the requests and needs of different internal stakeholders while firmly advocating for our audiences.
  • Creative understanding of how digital audiences can be built across social platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and have efficient time management skills.
  • Native fluency in Russian, Tajik, Kazakh, Kyryz, Turkmen, or another language from Central Asia required.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Fluency and interest in social media a major plus
  • Willingness to travel
