Arizona State University CLI in Armenian, BCS, Russian, Uzbek

I write from Arizona State University regarding the Critical Language Institute’s (CLI) intensive summer language programs for Armenian, BCS, Russian, and Uzbek. Having learned that Chicago’s Center for Eastern European and Russian/Eurasian Studies offers FLAS awards for students studying these languages, I wanted reach out to make sure that you were aware of our offerings. For Armenian, we offer second-year and advance study-abroad programs in Yerevan. For BCS, we offer second-year and advanced study-abroad programs in Sarajevo, Bosnia. For Russian, we offer year 2 on our Tempe campus, years 2-4 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and years 4-6 in St. Petersburg, Russia. For Uzbek, we offer a second-year program at Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature. (We also offer introductory courses for all four languages, as well as Polish and Turkish.) Classes meet 4 hours a day; students can earn between 8 and 10 credit hours, and OPI testing indicates participants make substantial gains in comprehension and fluency. Through curricular innovation, co-curricular enhancement, outstanding faculty and small class sizes, CLI seeks to serve the next generation of scholars and practitioners as they develop their linguistic and cultural understanding, whatever their home institution.
