The Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at Augusta University seeks a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Modern European History with ability to teach the history of Russia and the USSR. Other specialties and subfields open. Ability to teach in the areas of women/ gender and to support a new doctoral program in International Security Studies will be considered a plus. Appointment to begin August 2023. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and display a compelling research agenda. PhD in History or related field required, awarded prior to appointment. The successful candidate will teach survey courses in both earlier and later US History, as well as upper-level courses in modern Russian history and other modern European history, and potentially other courses in the candidate’s areas of interest. Standard duties for academic-year faculty include teaching undergraduate history courses, advising and mentoring students, maintaining a strong research program, and providing service to the Department, College, and University.
Responsibilities
 Teach courses in the History curriculum, including Russian and Modern European history and other classes during the academic year as assigned by Chair
 Participate in the continued development and assessment of the History curriculum and programs
 Advise and mentor history students and participate in student recruitment for department programs
 Contribute to student success
 Establish and grow an agenda of discovery, including producing scholarly work and research publications per department guidelines for History
 Participate in shared governance of the university and university system as well as provide service to profession and scholarly service to community
 Providing timely grading and student feedback
 Adhering to all academic policies of the University
 Maintenance of a high-quality research program
 Attendance at faculty meetings and other required university function
Required Qualifications
 Earned doctorate in History or related field at time of appointment
 Demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness with diverse student populations
Preferred Qualifications
 Experience teaching undergraduates both in person and in online asynchronous courses
