Middlebury Institute’s Summer Intensive Language Program (SILP) in Monterey, CA
We are now accepting applications for the Russian Summer Intensive Language Program (SILP)! This is an opportunity to learn one academic year's worth of language in eight weeks in beautiful Monterey, California from June 11–August 5, 2020: http://go.miis.edu/silp
For over 60 years, SILP has helped thousands of students achieve their Russian language goals in their personal and professional lives through rigorous study and real-world application.
During the program, students will do the following:
- Build on structural elements of grammar and vocabulary.
- Cultivate reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in Russian to achieve measurable proficiency according to ACTFL world-readiness standards.
- Undergraduate and graduate students may receive up to a year of language credit to transfer to their home institution.
- Work on individual projects to develop fluency in a particular field of academic interest and professional specialization.
- Interpret and navigate authentic primary sources, including Russian films, political and environmental articles and news sources, original literature, music, video, and animation.
- Participate in co-curricular activities such as excursions to San Francisco’s Russian district, Russian blini and piroshki cooking class, Russian conversation tables and game nights, dramatic performances, musical evenings, lectures from prominent Russian speakers, film screenings, group hikes in surrounding mountains and gatherings on the ocean beach.
The cost of the program is $4,175. Financial aid may be available through students’ home institutions, and this can only be determined by the home institution. We are willing and able to accept external scholarships. Please see this list of language scholarships, and we also encourage prospective applicants to do their own research: http://go.miis.edu/silpscholarships
