SUMMARY

The Ukraine Coordinator provides support to the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. FLEX (www.discoverflex.org) is administered by American Councils (www.americancouncils.org) and provides a life-changing, one-year scholarship exchange opportunity in the U.S. for approximately 900 competitively selected secondary school students from Europe and Eurasia.

 

This position supports the 200 students from Ukraine who are currently in the U.S. for their 2021-22 FLEX program. Most work will be performed during standard U.S. business hours (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST) but will occasionally extend to weekends, early mornings and/or evenings.  The Ukraine Coordinator reports to the Secondary School Programs Director in Washington, DC and works closely with designated FLEX Ukraine staff.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Liaise with placement organizations and Kyiv office on student support and behavioral issues
  • Assist with troubleshooting support issues locally when possible
  • Field inquiries from natural parents, host parents, applicants, alumni, the press, and others
  • Develop informational materials to share with parents and students
  • Collect information and develop a tracking system, in coordination with DC and Ukraine staff, for determining a plan for each student at the end of the year
  • Assist partner organizations and students with understanding available options
  • Assist with travel logistics, including researching Covid, visa, and other entry requirements for destination countries
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Experience coordinating and prioritizing in a fluid situation or crisis
  • Experience coordinating international travel and visas
  • Familiarity with Ukraine preferred
  • Ukrainian language skills preferred
