Elena Bogdanova - Knight at the Crossroad: Russian Social Science Academic Journals in Wartime

Social Science Research Building, Tea Room, Room 201, 1126 E 59th St.

The outbreak of war with Ukraine caused serious changes in the field of Russian studies. This also had dramatic consequences for Russian social science academic journals. In the context of tightening censorship and growing political risks, journals were forced to make a choice between internationalization, which has become common in recent years, and reorientation to the new rules for reproducing scientific content that are emerging in Russia today. Elena Bogdanova, editor of Laboratorium: Russian Review of Social Research, will discuss the resources of Russian academic journals and the risks and problems they face today.
