Maxim Sonin is a writer, screenwriter, and editor. They are the author of four novels written and published in Russian: Letters till Midnight (“Письма до полуночи/Pis’ma do polunochi,” 2019), Dvoitsa (Двоица, 2021), The Hunt (“Охота /Okhota,” 2022) and Elephant Steps (“Ступает слон/Stupaet slon,” 2022), and a short-story collection titled
Old Soldier Song (2021). Their debut novel Letters till Midnight was the first contemporary Russian novel about a lesbian relationship. Their work explores young adults in Russia and their struggles with identity and politics. They were also the co-host and editor for the political show “What next?” (А дальше чё?) on the Russian opposition network TVRain (Дождь).
