American Councils Study Abroad Programs — Fall 2020

American Councils Study Abroad is now accepting applications for Fall & Academic Year 2020 study and intern abroad programs in Russia and Kazakhstan! Applications are due March 15, 2020.

 

Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP)

RLASP offers participants the unique opportunity to study Russian language and area studies in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladimir, Russia or Almaty, Kazakhstan while pursuing volunteer opportunities, internships, and cultural interests in an overseas immersion setting. Small class sizes and local conversation partners to assist participants with language learning. Prerequisite: two semesters of Russian.

 

Business Russian Language & Internship (BRLI) Program

BRLI combines a specially designed curriculum focusing on Russian language for the business world with an internship averaging 10-15 hours per week at a multinational company or business in Russia or Kazakhstan. Program features include homestays, weekly excursions, travel to other regions of the host country, conversation partners, and a wide range of opportunities to pursue hobbies and personal interests in a Russian-language context. The highly individualized BRLI curriculum can be tailored to serve students ranging from intermediate to near native speakers of Russian.

 

Russian Heritage Speakers Program

The Russian Heritage Speakers Program is intended to address the specific needs of students who speak Russian at home or with relatives, or who grew up speaking Russian and wish to strengthen their Russian skills. Program participants work with American Councils staff and host university faculty to develop an individualized program serving their unique needs as language learners. All programs focus on the development of Russian language skills, including grammar, conversation, and phonetics. Participants receive a minimum of twelve hours per week of in-class contact hours. Program features include homestays, weekly excursions, travel to other regions of the host country, conversation partners, and a wide range of opportunities to pursue hobbies and personal interests in a Russian context.

 

American Councils Study Abroad programs feature:

  • Comprehensive pre-departure orientation in Washington, D.C. as well as on-site orientation in the host country.
  • Housing with carefully-vetted host families or in university dormitories
  • U.S. academic credit administered through Bryn Mawr College
  • Creative excursions and cultural activities that go beyond typical tourist destinations and offer new insights into the host country life and culture

SCHOLARSHIPS

Students admitted to American Councils programs are eligible to receive financial support from a wide range of sources, including the U.S. Department of State (Title VIII), U.S. Department of Education (Fulbright-Hays), the Dan E.
