the application deadline for American Councils' Summer 2023 Eurasian Regional Language Program (ERLP) is February 15, 2023. ERLP offers the following languages and locations: 

      • Kazakh in Almaty, Kazakhstan
      • Azerbaijani and Turkish in Baku, Azerbaijan 
      • Kyrgyz in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
      • Romanian and Ukrainian in Chisinau, Moldova
      • Pashto, Persian (Dari/Farsi/Tajiki), and Uzbek in Dushanbe, Tajikistan
      • Chechen, Georgian, and Ukrainian in Tbilisi, Georgia
      • Armenian in Yerevan, Armenia

MEHAT/ISRG welcomes presentation proposals from graduate students (MA or PhD) and faculty/staff in any department or program related to Islamicate societies past or present. We are particularly eager to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration with those working beyond the contemporary boundaries of the Middle East.

Our desire is for the workshop to be a low stress place for students and faculty to receive collegial feedback on current, or very recently published work so please do consider applying!

POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Officer is part of a team that delivers the Tajikistan Secondary Schools English Teacher Professional Development Program (TSSET) program in Tajikistan, funded for 18 months by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe.  Based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Program Officer is responsible for administration, monitoring, and reporting for the nationwide initiative that aims to improve the teaching of English in schools, with emphasis on the secondary level

The Language Workshop at Indiana University, the Slavic Reference Service, and the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) are hosting an online discussion series -  Research and Language Learning

 

We are inviting established scholars to discuss the role language proficiency plays in research, with examples from their own scholarly work. The initiative will be launch with the Turkic languages of  Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Turkish, Uyghur, and Uzbek. We welcome language learners of all academic backgrounds to participate in these discussions. 

Through this series, students and established scholars will discuss the role of language proficiency in conducting research, with examples from their own scholarly work. These talks are open to the public, and those interested in participating may register below. We will announce dates for talks on Uyghur and Uzbek languages in the Spring semester.

The 2022 Dumanian Lecture Series will be hosting its first event of the year – "The City and its Hinterland, the Monastery and its Villages: Revisiting Late Medieval Armenian Geographies and Landscapes," a presentation on Armenian monastic life in the medieval period by NELC Dumanian visiting Professor, Rachel Goshgarian (Lafayette College). April 21, 2022 @ 6:00PM CST.

The Midwest Slavic Association and The Ohio State University (OSU) Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (CSEEES) are pleased to announce the 2022 Midwest Slavic Conference to be held at OSU in Columbus, Ohio on April 1-3, 2022. The conference committee invites proposals for papers on all topics related to the Slavic, East European, and Eurasian world, particularly those that explore issues surrounding climate change: the usage and depletion of natural resources, environmental changes, as well as issues surrounding the changing climates in politics, society, and culture (eco-criticism, eco-poetics, etc.). Abstract submissions are due January 28, 2022.
