Academic Bio

Dr. Kate Franklin received her PhD in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Chicago. She is a lecturer in Medieval History at Birkbeck, University of London. She worked previously as a project manager for the Afghan Heritage Mapping Partnership at the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago; she has lectured at the University of Chicago (Armenian Studies) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (Anthropology). Her ongoing research focuses on the participation of late medieval Armenians (villagers, merchants, princes, scholars) in the travel, politics, and trade of Silk-Road globality in various cosmopolitan ways.
