Graduate students in all divisions and professional schools with projects in race/ethnic studies and who are in good standing are eligible to apply for a travel-research grant of up to $2500 to be used between July 1, 2021 and May 15, 2022.

Thanks to the generosity of donors and members, the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies is offering a limited number of grants, with a maximum stipend of $6,000, for the purposes of summer dissertation writing on any aspect of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies in any discipline. The writing grant program is directed at PhD students at US universities who do not qualify for the ASEEES Dissertation Research Grant because they do not intend to conduct research in the region. Therefore, current or past recipients of the ASEEES Dissertation Research Grants are not eligible. Students may only receive ONE Summer Dissertation Writing Grant over the course of their graduate studies.

Applications are invited for postdoctoral bursaries from candidates in any area of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. We would particularly welcome applications linked to the themes of the new Institute Project on Decoloniality (IPD'24) taking place at IASH from 2021 to 2024. This project invites scholars from around the world to visit Edinburgh and conduct research on the theme of decoloniality, broadly understood. We and our partners warmly encourage applications exploring issues including but not limited to: decolonising the curriculum; anticolonial and decolonial theory; neo-colonialism; intellectuals in and from the Global South; intersectionality and multiple inequalities; decolonising gender and sexuality; race and racialisation; de-centering Western feminist knowledge production; Scotland’s role in the British Empire; reparations; the University of Edinburgh’s colonial legacy and alumni roles in the slave trade; and the histories of Edinburgh graduates and staff of colour. It is important to note that we still welcome applications on all topics and in all areas of the arts, humanities and social sciences to continue IASH’s traditional interdisciplinary work across the 12 CAHSS schools, alongside IPD’24.

The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) at the University of Pittsburgh will award up to two Language Teaching and Learning Research (LTLR) grants for scholars to conduct research projects on-site or remotely at Pitt's Slavic, East European, and Near Eastern Summer Language Institute (SLI) in June–July 2021. Funded projects must focus on the teaching and learning of one or more of the following priority languages: Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Polish, Russian, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

Europe has a vibrant and exciting science and technology culture and offers many excellent and generous career funding opportunities for researchers and innovators, no matter where they come from in the world. Horizon Europe, the European Union’s research and innovation funding program, will be the world’s largest multinational R&I program. In addition to funding collaborative research projects, it will offer opportunities to individual researchers. Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and European Research Council grants will be open to researchers from public and private organizations, who would like to spend time in Europe, regardless of their nationalities, careers stage, or field of research. The School of Modern Languages at the University of St Andrews offers support for applications to the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship scheme on a competitive basis. The School hosts a vibrant research culture with internationally recognised expertise in its 8 language disciplines (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Persian, Russian, Spanish) as well as in Comparative Literature. Areas of interest extend from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary, and include literature, history, visual culture, memory studies, performance studies, postcolonial studies, cultural studies, and gender studies.

The Multi-Country Research Fellowship supports advanced regional or trans-regional research in the humanities, social sciences, or allied natural sciences for U.S. doctoral candidates, and scholars who hold a PhD. Preference will be given to candidates examining comparative and/or cross-regional research. Applicants are eligible to apply as individuals or in teams. Scholars must carry out research in two or more countries outside the U.S., at least one of which hosts a participating American overseas research center.

The University of Pittsburgh is offering a postdoctoral fellowship in the arts and humanities to begin in August 2021 for scholars whose work focuses on Russia, Eastern Europe, or Central Asia. This fellowship is a non-renewable appointment that ends in July 2022. The Fellow will be expected to pursue their own scholarly work and participate in the academic and intellectual activities of the University Center for International Studies (UCIS) and the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES), as well as the department with which they become affiliated.
